Volunteer Position Information

There are a variety of ways you can get involved with a Girl Scout troop or group. Below are the various ways to get involved in a troop or group setting. As you can see, various positions have been created because in Girl Scouts we realize that every volunteer’s situation is different.

Have an immediate impact on the lives of girls in your community by serving as a role model, mentor, friend and leader. You can develop a variety of skills through training, and explore new adventures. If you enjoy working with youth and promoting strong spirits in today’s young women, this is the role for you. 
  • Be the primary adult leader with girls, with a second approved adult.  
  • Be a signer on the troop bank account
  • Lead Girl Scout Fall Product Sales or Cookie Sales for troop

  • Complete required training s
  • Register as a member of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.  ($15 annual fee)

One or more assistant leaders allow for more safety, activities and fun for girls. Your participation helps keep Girl Scouting available for all girls who are interested—and enriches your leadership skills at the same time.
  • Work in partnership with leader to manage group, lead activities and ensure the goals are met
  • Can be signer on troop bank account
  • Can fill in for troop leader during meetings 
  • Lead Fall Product Sales or Cookie Sales for troop

  • Register as a member of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.  ($15 annual fee)

Troop/Group Support Volunteer (03)
One or more troop support volunteers allow for more safety, activities and fun for the girls. Your participation helps keep Girl Scouting available for all girls who are interested.
  • Cannot be alone with girls without 01/02 present
  • Can be signer on troop bank account
  • Provide transportation

  • Complete volunteer application and criminal background check
  • Register as a member of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.  ($15 annual fee)

Adult Helper (14)
Troop helpers are there to support the troop leaders where addition help is needed. 
  • Cannot be signer on troop bank account 
  • Cannot be alone with girls without 01/02 present
  • Provide transportation
Position Requirements
  • ​Register as a member of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.  ($15 annual fee)

Each Girl Scout troop must have 2 non-related adults that have completed and approved through the volunteer application and criminal background check. Although training is recommended for all volunteers in an appointed, leadership position, at least one of the 2 adults must complete the required training. Troops that do not meet these guidelines will not be an eligible troop and should not meet as a troop until the requirements are met.
