Q: What is Bleed for a Cause?
Bleed for a Cause is a competition among charitable nonprofits to recruit blood donors for Hoxworth Blood Center. The top three organizations who score the most points will win $2,500, $5,000 or $10,000. Bleed for a Cause is generously sponsored by Montgomery Inn and Toyota Motor Engineering and Manufacturing North America.
Q: When is Bleed for a Cause?
A: Bleed for a Cause runs from February 1–28, 2013.
Q: How are the points scored for Bleed for a Cause?
A: Points are tallied as follows:
• 1 point for a whole blood donation
• 2 points for a double red donation
• 3 points for a “platelet” donation
• 2 bonus points for a first time Hoxworth donor
Q: Do I have to go to the Girl Scout blood drive?
A: No. You can donate at any Hoxworth Blood Center neighborhood donor center, just state that you are donating in support of Girl Scouts of Western Ohio.
Q: Can only members of Girl Scouts of Western Ohio donate blood and vote for my organization?
A: No. Anyone can, including members, brothers, great aunts, next-door-neighbors and mechanics. Anyone can donate blood in the name of Girl Scouts of Western Ohio.
Q: If I forget to mention Girl Scouts of Western Ohio when I'm registering to donate, can I go back later and have Hoxworth registration staff enter my charity?
A: No. In order to tally points correctly, everyone must mention their nonprofit of choice during the donor registration process—before the actual blood donation.
Q: Can supporters of Girl Scouts of Western Ohio donate blood in another county and still vote for my organization?
A: Yes. Supporters can donate blood anywhere in the Hoxworth service area, which includes 17 counties in Southeastern Indiana, Northern Kentucky and Southwestern Ohio. As long as they mention Girl Scouts of Western Ohio, we will receive those points. The counties are in:
• Ohio—Adams, Brown, Butler, Clermont, Hamilton, Highland, Scioto and Warren.
• Kentucky—Boone, Campbell, Grant and Kenton.
• Indiana—Dearborn, Franklin, Ohio, Ripley and Switzerland.
