TROOP ADVENTURE CAMP AT CAMP STONYBROOK CANCELLED FOR THE 2013 SEASON

As a result of “across the board” cuts made by several United Ways that support Girl Scouts and a cookie sale that is significantly below projections, we have had to make some difficult budget cuts, including cancelling the 12 sessions of Troop Adventure Camp (TAC) at Camp Stonybrook for the 2013 summer season. In addition, the Camp Stonybrook swimming pool will not be open for the 2013 camp season.

This decision was not made lightly. Our commitment has been to minimize the impact on girls in all budget cuts we have had to make. After careful evaluation of the reduced camp attendance over the last few years and the many other summer opportunities available, we believe this is the right decision for this season. We will re-evaluate our options in the fall, in preparation for the 2014 camp season.

We recognize that this affects troop plans, as well as those who would like to be a Program Assistant (PA) at Camp Stonybrook. However, the following opportunities are still available to you:

One session of Council Operated Troop Camp (COTC) will be held at Camp Rolling Hills, April 19-21. (Existing COTC at Camp Whip Poor Will is already at capacity.) This is a great opportunity for your troops of all ages, to try something new!
Camp Stonybrook will still be available for troop camping and service unit camp outs. Please note that troops are required to be have a camp-certified adult to go camping – and there are many opportunities to get trained! A new PA opportunity is being created at Camp Butterworth during day camp, the last two weeks of July and the first week of August. More info is to come on this opportunity.
The two Me and My Gal sessions that were scheduled for Camp Stonybrook have been moved to Camp WhipPoorWill, which is near Stonybrook. Campers that have already signed up for this opportunity will be contacted next week (February 25- March 1) to notify them about this change in location. Troops can also work with girls’ families to shift their camp opportunity to one that includes moms or another female adult and attend this opportunity for fun in the outdoors!
