Camp Whip Poor Will

Located near the Little Miami river on 505 acres of land, Camp Whip Poor Will has a wide variety of living areas from platform tents to Conestoga wagons. Ravines give way to small creeks which make excellent spots for creek hikes and fossil hunting. A small pond, high ropes, and low ropes as well as an archery range, swimming pool and craft area are other features at Camp Whip-Poor-Will.

  • Junior Counselor
    This is for the CIT who is ready to specialize. Junior Counselors will attend their own three day pre-camp training at Camp Whip Poor Will, and then select two weeks to return to camp to complete their internship. Internship weeks can be completed at either camp and will consist of one week as a unit counselor, and one week in a specialization area. Choose one of the following areas to advance your skills: sports, arts & crafts, nature, waterfront activities, or unit leadership. Participants will go home over the weekends between internship weeks. After successful completion of internship weeks, girls will earn their CIT II pin (provided) and they may be invited to return for additional weeks of service. Prerequisite: CIT II

  • Brownie Explorer

  • Campapalooza

  • Mermaids
    Join us and go splashing around camp! Spend time playing pool games, go on a creek peek and play with water balloon slingshots. You’ll learn the basics of canoeing and use a compass to search for buried treasure. Build your own raft and compete against others to find out which is the most seaworthy. Top off this week with a trip to Newport Aquarium to learn about the wonders of the ocean and touch sharks—if you dare.

  • Horsin’ Around
    Ready to get on a horse for the first time? Head to Camp Kern to learn the basics of horseback riding. Get the chance to take care of a horse, practice grooming, learn how to stop, steer, and control your horse, and go on trail ride weather permitting. Back at Camp Whip Poor Will, do all the fun camp activities like swimming, target sports, hiking, cooking out, and much more.

  • Glee Camp
    Come to camp to practice the songs and dances from your favorite TV shows and movies, play theatre games, try your hand at stage makeup, and design your own costumes. Do all of this to prepare a production of singing, dancing, and acting to perform for the whole camp as part of the Cadette Public Speaker badge.

  • Spa Days
    Learn the importance of rest, relaxation and healthy living. Sleep in, try yoga, and do face masks. Girls will learn about healthy eating, body image, how to stress less, and making exercise a fun part of everyday. Take time away from relaxing to enjoy regular camp activities as well, while working on the Cadette Eating for Beauty and Good Sportsmanship badges.

  • Paddles & Pedals
    Use your girl-power and learn to be self-sufficient by using several alternative forms of transportation. For the first part of this adventurous week, spend a day on the pond practicing your canoeing skills, and then head out to the Little Miami River for a day trip. Spend the rest of your week riding your bicycle around camp. Bring your own helmet and bicycle from home, or borrow a helmet and bike from camp to ride to the pool, to SassaCraft, to breakfast, to everywhere! Learn how to care for your bicycle, what to do in an emergency, and ride, ride, ride! Work towards the Cadette First Aid badge.

  • Free 2 B Me
    This week is all yours – 100% girl planning! You and the other girls in your unit will plan your unit’s schedule for the week, and just about anything goes.   • Counselor-In-Training (CIT)
    This opportunity is for the aspiring camp counselor. CIT participants will spend nights in their own unit and receive ongoing supervision and leadership guidance from the CIT manager, while learning the skills needed to be an outstanding camp counselor during the day. CITs will experience the challenges and rewards of working with younger girls through training that includes application of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, exploring the various leadership styles, learning positive behavior techniques, age and social characteristics, and resident camp skills. Participants will have an opportunity to observe unit and program staff, and plan and execute an all-camp activity. Participants will have the opportunity to evaluate experiences and receive guidance from the CIT manager as they assist in units, building up to spending an entire day with their assigned unit. Girls will earn their CIT I pin (provided). Participants will go home over the weekend of June20-22. Prerequisite: CIT I

    The cupcake is hotter than ever! Spend the week baking, designing, frosting, and trying different cake decorating techniques. Learn how to make an international dessert, fondant and homemade buttercream frosting as you create your own little works of edible art. Record your favorite recipes in a cookbook that you create! Be prepared to compete, cupcake versus cupcake in the tastiest camp bakeoff yet as you work in a team to impress the judges. Get inspired to pull out your apron and mixing bowl during this sweet session at camp as you work towards the Cadette New Cuisines and Book Artist badges.

  • Raft Rage
    For the girl who needs adventure and an adrenaline rush, this is the ultimate. Start at camp with challenge activities to set the tone for the week. Then head to West Virginia for some exciting white water rafting in the New River Gorge. Next, your heart will race as you fly across a series of zip lines high above the tree tops. Go longer, higher and faster on a series of 6 open air zip lines that soar 200 feet above the ground with one being over 3,000 feet long. An adventure you won’t forget.

  • Climbing Adventure
    An awesome high adventure for all levels of climbers! In this short but intense session, head out early to Torrent Falls near Red River Gorge in Kentucky for a day of special “Via Ferrata” climbing (where steel cables run along the route periodically fixed to the rock.) No climbing experience is necessary; just an outdoor spirit and a desire for the heights. Set in a horseshoe shaped canyon, girls will be secured with harnesses and clipped into a series of cables that span the natural rock face of the canyon. Qualified instructors are available to help.     This backpacking mini session is for any older girl who has ever wondered about backpacking adventures. Learn the basics of backpacking such as proper equipment, clothing, food, and conditioning.     Capture the perfect shot while mastering all the features of a digital camera. Focus on shooting techniques, mastering camera features, and editing photographs while working towards the Junior Digital Photographer badge.
