 Camp Whip Poor Will

Located near the Little Miami river on 505 acres of land, Camp Whip Poor Will has a wide variety of living areas from platform tents to Conestoga wagons. Ravines give way to small creeks which make excellent spots for creek hikes and fossil hunting. A small pond, high ropes, and low ropes as well as an archery range, swimming pool and craft area are other features at Camp Whip-Poor-Will.

  • Counselor-In-Training II Junior Counselor (CIT II Junior Counselor) (Two-week session)
    This is for the CIT II who is ready to specialize. Junior Counselors will attend and participate in the ten day pre-camp training with all of the camp staff, and then select two weeks to return to camp to complete their internship. One week of the internship will be as a unit counselor followed by one week in the area of their choosing. After successful completion, participants will be awarded the CIT II pin (provided); however they may be invited to return for additional weeks of service. Participants will stay at camp over the weekend of training (June 7-9) but will typically go home over the weekends between internship weeks. Junior Counselors attend Pre-Camp Training which begins at Camp Libbey and ends at Camp Whip Poor Will, with provided transportation between camps. Internship weeks can be completed at either camp.

  • Horsin' Around
    Ready to get on a horse for the first time? Head to Camp Kern to learn the basics of horseback riding. Get the chance to take care of a horse, practice grooming, go on trail rides, and learn how to stop, steer, and control your horse. Back at Camp Whip Poor Will do all the fun camp activities like swimming, target sports, hiking, cooking out, and much more.

  • Footloose & Fancy Free
    Join us to learn some dance moves, sing songs and practice your lines.   • Shipwrecked!
    Ahoy! Grab your best pirate garb and get ready for life on the high seas! You’ll learn the basics of canoeing and use a compass to search for buried treasure. Build your own raft and compete against others to find out which is the most seaworthy. After a hike by moonlight, sleep out under the stars! Top off this week with a trip to Newport Aquarium to learn about the wonders of the ocean and touch sharks—if you dare.

  • Paddles & Pedals
    Use your girl-power and learn to be self-sufficient by learning how to take care of yourself, while learning about alternative forms of transportation. For the first part of this adventurous week, spend a day on the pond practicing your canoeing skills, and then head out to the Little Miami River for a day trip. Spend the rest of your week riding your bicycle around camp. Bring your own helmet and bicycle from home, or borrow a helmet and bike from camp, and ride to the pool, to SassaCraft, to breakfast, to everywhere! Learn how to care for your bicycle, what to do in an emergency, and ride, ride, ride! Work towards the Cadette First Aid badge.   • Glee Camp
    Come to camp to practice the songs and dances from your favorite TV shows and movies, play theatre games, try your hand at stage makeup, and design your own costumes.   • Spa Days
    Learn the importance of rest, relaxation and healthy living. Sleep in, try yoga, and do face masks. Girls will learn about healthy eating, body image, how to stress less, and making exercise a fun part of everyday.     Welcome, outdoor foodies! This week go beyond hot dogs and pudgie pies to discover your gourmet potential. Create culinary art that will thrill your taste buds from breakfast to dinner and of course don’t forget the desserts. Make gourmet S’mores, homemade bread in a Dutch oven, chicken in a tin can, pizza in a BakePacker, and much more. Whether cooked in a Dutch oven, pie iron, on the grill, over a spit or in a tin can you will eat well and have fun. When you are too full to cook anymore, enjoy favorite camp activities planned by you! Work towards the Ambassador Dinner Party badge.

  • Roots, Ropes and Trees
    Are you ready for a challenge? Warm up with the low ropes course and then move on to the climbing wall. The highlight of this week will be a trip to Camp Kern for a two to three hour canopy zip line adventure.

    The cupcake is hotter than ever! Spend the week baking, designing, frosting, and trying different cake decorating techniques. Learn how to make an international dessert, fondant and homemade buttercream frosting as you create your own works of edible art. Discover the real math and science behind the perfect recipe then record your favorite recipes in a cookbook that you create. Be prepared to compete in the tastiest camp bakeoff yet as you work in a team to impress the judges.     This opportunity is for girls who have completed their Program Aide Training or their CIT I-Aide opportunity. Girls will continue to build on the skills they learned as an Aide. They will plan and implement an All-Camp Activity, shadow a counselor, and learn about leadership styles. Apprentices will spend nights in their own unit and receive ongoing supervision and leadership guidance from the CIT director. Girls will earn their CIT I pin (provided).     This backpacking mini session is for any older girl who has ever wondered about backpacking adventures. Learn the basics of backpacking such as proper equipment, clothing, food, and conditioning. Also learn how to pack, adjust, and put on your own backpack, pitch a tent, use a backpacking stove, and how to use a compass, while trailblazing the backwoods of Camp Whip Poor Will. Backpacks, stoves, cookware, tents and food are supplied. Participants need to provide hiking boots, proper socks, and a compact sleeping bag for this program.
