 Program Opportunities & Events

Program opportunities and events give girls the opportunity to achieve the Girl Scout Leadership Experience outcomes and can support journey, badge work or service projects. These program opportunities are supported by a variety of resources in order to give girls a well rounded menu of options to make their Girl Scout Leadership Experience fit their own unique interests and needs.

When planning activities with girls, note the abilities of each girl and carefully consider the progression of skills from the easiest part to the most difficult. Make sure the complexity of the activity does not exceed girls’ individual skills. You’ll also want to ensure girls are progressing through their experiences by making sure the activities they choose are grade-level appropriate.  Remember that choosing trips, program opportunities and service projects are a great way to make activities girl-led.

There are three types of program opportunities available to girls.

  1. GSUSA Sponsored Opportunities are hosted or sponsored by GSUSA.  These opportunities are usually for older girls and include service opportunities or travel opportunities such as Destinations.
  2. Council Sponsored Opportunities are hosted by Girl Scouts of Western Ohio through paid and volunteer staff and are open to registered Girl Scout members throughout the council. These opportunities offer troops or individual girls a chance to meet other girl and adult members from within the council’s jurisdiction. These opportunities are designed to meet the needs of girls beyond the resources available through the community and troop.  Summer camp falls into the category too. Girls and troops register through the council for these opportunities.
  3. Community Sponsored Opportunities are hosted by community partners who offer opportunities for girls to enhance their Girl Scout Leadership Experience. These community partners have identified ways that they help girls work towards the Leadership Outcomes. Girls and troops register through the individual organization for these opportunities.
